March 27, 2018 - The Gothong Southern Foundation (GSF) organized the first ever Educational City Tour for the Grade VI students of Cambagocboc Elementary School. Cambagocboc Elementary School is situated in Sunog, Balamban, Cebu. It is in a mountain barangay near the infamous crash site of former President Magsaysay’s plane, Mount Manunggal.
GSF believes in helping our youth by empowering them through education. Cambagocboc is one of the adopted schools of the foundation. Living in the mountain barangay, the students of Cambagocboc have limited exposure to the city and the opportunities it can offer them. Through the city tour, GSF aims to show the students the current urban development of Cebu as well as give them a glimpse of what could be a possible future for them after they graduate.
The first stop of the whole day tour was at the Sisters of Mary School - Girlstown, Inc. (SMS) in Talisay City. The school coordinators of SMS showed the Cambagocboc students around the school and gave them a brief background of the institution. The coordinators discussed school placement offers to the elementary graduates who are interested to enroll. To their great joy, the coordinators announced that there were 3 students from the group who successfully passed the entrance examination and will be joining the Sisters of Mary School come April 16, 2018.
After touring a potential school, the students, together with the teacher guides and volunteers from Gothong Southern, headed off to Robinsons Galleria, Cebu City. Before partaking of their lunch, GSF surprised the students with a visit to Toys R Us.
There, they were made to choose the toys
they wanted. It was priceless moment seeing the kids beaming faces.
After their lunch, the group proceeded to Play Lab. In the facility, they experienced different kinds of educational and interactive attractions. The students had a lot of fun inside the first digital playground in the Philippines.
The last destination of the tour was at the headquarters of Gothong Southern Group of Companies, Inc. inside Pier 4, Cebu City. There they learned about the company and its various businesses. They were also acquainted with the Gothong Family history which made the company what it is today.
The students met a lot of different people behind the Gothong Southern brand. They were toured around the port area as well apprising them of the company’s operations. It is hoped that one of these students could be making his or her career at Gothong Southern.
The educational city tour was very inspiring for the students. It gave them a wider perspective on their situation and how they can work towards achieving their plans for the future.
